Jane - Joint Nursery Manager
I hold my Professional Development Award in Childcare and Education which is the highest qualification that can be achieved in Pre School. I also hold a NC and HNC in Childcare and Education .I have 4 years experience of working with an After School Club and have worked at the Gyle Nursery for 6 years. I was a volunteer at the local brownies for 6 years and now volunteer at local guides. I hold a first aid certificate and have recently completed courses in food hygiene, cooking for the children and new games to supplement the preschool curriculum. I enjoy working with all age groups of children and currently specialise in managing the older age group of children and working within National Guidelines and Standards to deliver a quality pre school education. I never lose fact that we are also caring for your child and try to make the Nursery familiar and homely so children are looked after in an intimate environment.
Suzanne - Joint Nursery Manager
I have worked within the Gyle Nursery for 11 years and have been a member of the management team since 1999. I love the changing environment and the satisfaction that my job brings me. I have attained SVQ Levels 2 and 3 and continue my professional development by attending to courses e.g. Play for under 2’s, food hygiene and training events. I have just completed the first unit towards my Professional Development Award in Management and will continue with my studies. I manage the baby unit predominately and this is where I love to be. I am introducing the Scottish Executives Birth to 3 Curriculum throughout the Nursery for this age group to ensure they receive the appropriate education for this age group. I like the Baby unit to reflect home life as much as possible and enjoy working with the parents to ensure that the children are kept in familiar and reassuring routines.
Emma - Senior Nursery Nurse
I have been with the Nursery for over 2 years and am qualified to level 3 SVQ in Childcare and Early Education. I came to working in the Nursery later in my career as I always had a desire to work with children of this age group and finally took the leap. What a leap and one that I do not regret. I get so much from working with the children and their immediate feedback I can think of no other career for me now.
Liz - Senior Nursery Nurse
I have been with the Nursery for 8 years and prior to that I worked voluntarily with a play scheme for 5-11 years olds for 8 years. I then worked again voluntarily with special needs for 3-5 year olds for 4 ½ years. I also worked within a Nursery Crèche for 10 years that dealt with children from 6 weeks to 8 years old. I have been with The Gyle Nursery since May 1998 and environment that we have. Each day is different and creates its own challenges and rewards. My daughter also works for the Nursery within The Edinburgh Nursery.
Alison - Senior Nursery Nurse
I started work with the Edinburgh Nursery in October 1992. I was a manager for a long time with the Nursery School and the best part of being in the Nursery is being able introduce the National Curriculum to the younger children and provide them with all the tools to make the transition to the Nursery School smooth and trouble free. We meet with the Nursery School staff and children every day when we are at the Nursery outdoor play centre so everyone is a happy family but within the confines of smaller groups.I am NNEB qualified and moved to working with The Gyle Nursery in February 2007 to enable me to take my son to school in the mornings.
Wilma - Nursery Assistant
I have worked for the Nursery since 1999 and have had the privelege of working with the babies all of that time. My own grandchildren have attended the Nursery and I love being able to spend the time with the youngest of our children helping them to make the big milestones in the first couple of years at Nursery, first steps, independent feeding and toileting as well as the joy of first sounds and speech.
Gemma - Trainee Nursery Nurse
I have been with the Nursery since 2005 working part time. I love doing physical education with the children and making PE fun interesting and involving for the children. I enjoy the challenge of working with the children and reacting to the fun and interesting ideas that they come up with when we are working on topics. No two days are the same which makes this job very enjoyable! I am also a mother and work flexible hours so that I am able to spend time at home with my family.
Lisa - Trainee Nursery Nurse
I have just joined the Gyle Nursery in January 2007 directly from school. I am enrolled to commence my SVQ Level 2 qualification and am excited at starting my career in childcare. As I am working with staff that have been with the Nursery for a long time I am able to learn from their experience and knowledge and this is proving very useful when completing college assignments!
