CLAIRE - NURSERY MANAGER
I have worked with the Edinburgh Nursery for 15 years and am qualified to Level 4 in Childcare and Education. I am a specialist in Baby sign language and use this within the Nursery on a daily basis. I am very proud to be one of the small number of Nursery Nurses in Scotland to achieve this qualification. I also hold an HNC in Childcare and Education, a Child Carers First Aid Certificate, and have attended courses in the Role of the Team Leader as part of my management responsibilities. I find every day a new opportunity to learn from the children and especially love working with the babies. I have worked with all age ranges within the nurseries and have been with the babies since 1996. I also manage the Crèche at Broughton Street where we work on the same principles and with the same ethos that Small is Beautiful. This leads to the Nursery providing intimate and personal care to the little people in your life.
LISA - SENIOR NURSERY NURSE
14 Years with The Edinburgh Nursery have passed and I can hardly believe it. Some of the children that I first cared for are now sitting their Standard Grade Exams! There is nothing more ageing that seeing children grow, although it’s true what they say that they keep you young! I am NNEB qualified since 1994, and have experience with working with all units within the nursery. I attend continuous professional development courses to ensure that I remain up to speed with current developments and thinking within the Nursery and Educational World. Recently I have spent a lot of time working on the Birth to 3 Document which is a National Standard from the Scottish Executive and aims to deliver a broad spectrum of pre school education for children of this age.
LYNN - SENIOR NURSERY NURSE
I am the mother of three young children, two at school and one who is 18months old. I have worked at the Edinburgh Nursery since 1999 and have worked in most units of the nursery. I really enjoy caring for the babies at the Crèche, and it doesn’t even seem like a busman’s holiday. I am SVQ Level 3 Qualified and continue to attend professional development training.
TIFANNY - TRAINEE NURSERY ASSISTANT
I have been with the Nursery now for 18 months and am currently studying at college towards my Level 2 qualification. I hope to progress straight onto Level 3 as I love the opportunity of studying and working with the children at the same time. I am normally based at East London Street but as part of my training in-house I also undertake placements within the other units. If young children are moving to the Nursery Unit I may go with them to aid their settling in and develop my practical skills with the older children.
NEELAM - TRAINEE NURSERY NURSE
I have been with the Nursery for 6 months and came here straight from school. I have just started my college course to gaining my qualification in childcare. I just love working with the younger children and feel I have really found what I want to do. I enjoy taking the children out on walks and visits to local parks and local landmarks. I am looking forward to attending conferences on childcare developments and new resources.
CLAIRE - TRAINEE NURSERY ASSISTANT
I started working with the nursery in 2005 and am currently studying towards my Level 2 in Childcare and Education. As we have staff that have been with the Nursery for a long time I am able to learn from their experience and knowledge and this is proving very useful when completing college assignments.
EILIDH - TRAINEE NURSERY ASSISTANT
I am currently studying for my Level 2 in Childcare and Education. I previously worked at the Gyle Nursery with both babies and toddlers. I am also the mum of a baby boy born in 2005. My son is at the Crèche in Broughton Street so I am able to concentrate on the other children whilst getting a little bit of time with him when the units come together for messy play and outings.
