How We Began

Activities (Page 2)

Construction & Tabletop Toys
Our babies enjoy this play activity as most of the equipment is explored at floor level. Activities such as blocks, zoo/farm animals, musical toys, shape fitting, simple jigsaws build on social skills communications and language. We introduce many themes in this way such as farm, circus, zoo, colours and shapes.

Art Activities
We get babies involved in a wide selection of art activities, anything from body/finger painting, glueing with junk and materials to play dough, clay a gluk! Our babies learn so much from these activities as they are given opportunities to explore them in their time. Basic knowledge and understanding of why and how things are used is gained. We introduce basic maths through colours, shape, size and materials. Most of the activities are rather messy, so our nurseries are the perfect way to explore these!

Physical Play & Development
Physical play and development is ongoing within our nurseries and skills are developed in all areas of our facilities. We have spacious outdoor gardens and equipment to stimulate the babies to crawl, walk, climb, balance and develop co-ordination skills as well as social skills. We regularly visit places of interest around the local areas to enable us to develop the babies' well-being and build their knowledge of the world around them.

Music, Movement & Singing
The babies always enjoy this part of the day, whether it be singing, dancing, playing simple instruments or clapping along to music. These activities introduce them to different music, rhythms, opportunities to be expressive and interact with others, new sounds and new vocabulary through singing.

Sand & Water
This play enables our babies to explore textures, for example, sand, bubbles and soap so that they can interact on a one to one basis with an adult or play with friends. We introduce basic mathematical skills at this stage including weights, textures and capacity. We find that sometimes this is the first opportunity for babies to explore the areas, especially sand.

Stories, Poetry & Rhymes
Story time can be done in small groups, however we find that this age usually prefer one to one sessions. We introduce them to basic pictures and words to enhance their communication and language skills so that we can build on their knowledge and understanding of the world. We find that nursery rhymes are very popular and we tend to use them to build on babies' memory skills and link also with home and parents.
